Food intolerance testing
“What is food to one man may be fierce poison to another” – Lucretius circa 75BC
It is estimated that only 1.5% of the UK population suffer from a food allergy whereas, according to Allergy UK, as much as 45% are affected by a food intolerance.
Food Allergies vs. Food Intolerances
Food allergies and food intolerances are often confused. You know you are suffering from an allergy when you have immediate onset symptoms usually within 2 hours of eating a certain food i.e. swollen lips, shortness of breath, sneezing, asthma. These conditions can be life threatening and need to be dealt with by your doctor.
With food intolerances, the symptoms are usually delayed, sometimes not occuring until 24-72 hours later. Many people tend to live with often uncomfortable symptoms, as the traditional elimination method which is often recommended by the NHS, can be very long winded and make it very difficult to pinpoint exactly which food is causing the problem. The symptoms may also be hard to treat i.e. IBS, Candida, migraines, bloating, diarrhoea, skin rashes, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue.
The Role of Food Intolerance Testing
A food intolerance test can have a hugely positive impact on your life by identifying relatively quickly, (7-10 days from when blood sample sent to laboratory) whether there is a particular food or foods to which you react, and therefore get you closer to eliminating your symptoms for good.
We use the leaders in the field of food intolerance testing York Test Laboratories, who are the only food intolerance testing servce endorsed by Allergy UK. They are also endorsed by well known GP's on television, Dr Chris Steele and Dr Hilary Jones, and highly acclaimed Nutritionist Patrick Holford. York Test Laboratories use finger prick blood samples and test your blood for raised IgG antibodies to particular foodstuffs.
What it involves...
A finger prick of blood is taken at your nutritional consultation. The kit is then sent off and analysed. The results are returned to Katie within 10 days who will then make your follow up appointment to see you and discuss the outcome of your report and results and support you with your diet going forward by focusing on elimination and alternatives.
73% of customers get better within 3 weeks of taking the test and eliminating foods advised
